This graphic shows why having a properly insulated home is essential for energy efficiency. Air leaks commonly occur in areas where insulation is missing or poorly sealed, allowing outside air to enter and conditioned air to escape.
When these leaks exist, heating and cooling systems must work harder, increasing energy use and utility costs. The arrows in this diagram highlight the most common locations where air leakage occurs, including the attic, ductwork, and basement areas.
